Shona Inatimi is a Dundee born artist of mixed Nigerian heritage. She is now based in Glasgow. Her practice creates compassionate spaces through; conversing through making; connecting with nature and the Scottish landscape; and reframing the Black figure through visual-story-telling.  Spaces cultivated with care allow us salvation. We recognise power in ourselves that is otherwise minimised, suppressed or robbed in a misogynistic-anti-black world.

Immersing ourselves in the natural world as a way to foster a sense of belonging and interconnectedness - away from conforming pressures - as an exploration of performativity: navigating identity while maintaining authenticity and challenging societal norms. Shona is also interested in finding moments of rest - to pause and think. Through her practice, she creates spaces to recuperate from daily life struggles and a tenebrious world.

Shona is a 2021 DJCAD graduate and a current artist in residence for the Dòigh Nàdair Programme in conjunction with Rhubaba (Edinburgh). The end of summer 2024 she collaborated with fellow artist and musicians based in Dundee to host an open studios weekend at 209 Hilltown. The weekend was full of sharing artwork, creative writing, live music and celebrating a community of artists. In 2023 Shona was a CULTIVATE creative practitioner working with POC artists in Dundee to share the stories of those who are marginalised by climate change. This culminated in a final exhibition “Dear Earth” at Centrespace DCA, where she showcased “a glimmer, a glimpse, a glare”. Shona also had her first solo exhibition “See You Glow” at Federation Gallery, Dundee (Summer 2022) which celebrated radiant women.
